Luis G. Jordá

Until very recently, there was almost nothing known about the life of Luis G. Jordá. Fortunately, Cristian Canton dedicated several years to the writing of Jordá’s first biography. In words of the author: “Luis G. Jordà (1869-1951) fue uno de tantos catalanes que fue a hacer las Américas y cosechó un éxito sin precedentes en su patria adoptiva: México. Compositor brillante, virtuoso del piano, pionero de la fonografía, Jordá fue uno de los músicos más aplaudidos de principios del siglo XX en la Ciudad de México con obras como la zarzuela Chin Chun Chan o la mazurca Elodia. Los catalanes le dejaban la tarea de rescatar su vida y obra a los mexicanos y viceversa, por lo que Jordà se convirtió en un náufrago de la memoria colectiva, a la deriva en medio de un océano de olvido.”
