matthew WEATHERS
Viola
Violist Matthew Weathers is a Houston-based performer and teacher. An active freelance
performer, he has performed with many of Houston’s musical institutions, including Musiqa,
Mercury Chamber Orchestra, Aperio-- Music of the Americas, and Loop38. He is also looking
forward to performing with the Houston Grand Opera in 2023. Matthew is an avid voice for
works by living composers, and has premiered dozens of new works, both as soloist and
ensemble member. In addition to performing, Matthew is on faculty at Lone Star College
University Park, and has worked with students of Klein ISD and the Kinder High School for the
Visual and Performing Arts. Matthew holds degrees from Northwestern University and the
Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree as a
student of Ivo van der Werff at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
